"The reviews we receive on our tracks are great!"

- Carlos & Albert

When did you start making music?
We’ve been musicians for a long time and both went to Music School. Carlos studied production and engineering and Albert focused on modern music. We have the same point of view on music and always wanted to make dance music together. We used to watch the people dance in the clubs and kept saying to ourselves; wouldn’t it be great when they would dance to our tracks! In the year 2001 we were asked to do a house track for a female singer from Spain and we haven’t let go of dance music ever since.

What drives you to make music? What inspires you?
We just love to see people dance on our music. We have worked on a lot of projects and composed music for advertising and soundtracks. We now want to bring our experience to dance music. We always try to tell a story with our tracks, like in a soundtrack.

How would you describe the music that you make?
We do a lot of different music styles and every song has its very own explanation. We simply want to make the music that we feel, and life has so many feelings. This means that our mental state is of great influence on our work. When we create a track on Sunday and try to do the same on Monday the results will be completely different.

Who’s your favourite producer or deejay?
We have so many artists that inspire us, from jazz to rock and from Aretha Franklin to Moby. As for dance we are probably most influenced by Josh Wink, Massive Attack and Norman Cook. We played a lot of their records in the clubs and absolutely love the feeling of these tracks.

Which gear do you use?
We mostly work pc based. We have a dual core machine and work with the TC Powercore and a lot of plugins. We sequence with Cubase SX and also use Reason for our compositions. Most of our sounds come from the Access Virus (running on the Powercore), Albino 3, Arturia softsynths, Nexus and samples from Phatmatic Pro.

What’s your favourite tool or instrument?
That’s difficult to say. Perhaps it would be everything that comes out from our heart and brain. Haha!

Which gear is still on your must-have list?
We would love to have an analogue mixing desk. You know, like a big fat SSL. That would be something. However, the next affordable gear on our wish list is a midi guitar.

Why did you join I-dance?
We noticed I-dance in Future Music and immediately liked what it has to offer. A few weeks later we bought a Behringer controller and it included a voucher for a free membership. We decided to sign up and directly upgraded to Artist+. It’s a very good way to expose our music and to learn from other producers. The reviews we received on our tracks were great and it’s very useful to hear the opinion of other producers. Of course our friends also check out our music but they don’t have the experience to give constructive feedback. I-dance will change the work of a lot of people.

How did I-dance help you so far?
Too much. So many people have given us great advice which helped us to improve our music. We are doing different monitoring and mixing now and love the way the review system works. It’s good to separate the taste in music from the opinion on the beats, arrangement, mixing, etc. We are now talking to various labels as our music was already sent to about 38 labels. But we might wait a while with signing a deal until we have finished the tracks for a complete album.

What’s your biggest dream?
We don’t have too many dreams to be honest. We want a nice life and simply wish to bring our projects to life. We don’t really like the word dreams, perhaps it’s better to say that we wish to materialize our ideas. But we would love to make a soundtrack for a movie. You know, a score that will make the people intensely experience the emotions of a certain scene in a movie. And while we’re at it, yes, we would also like to release an album.

Where do you want to be in 5 years from now?
We really don’t think that we can know. We are in constant change and hope to be in a better place. Working in a better studio, knowing more people and going to more clubs.

What’s your advice for people who have just started making music?
Well, we would say that 50% is about being sure of what you do. The other 50% is about questioning what you do and listening to the advice of other people. It’s also important that you are aware of the fact that you are not just making music for yourself. Perhaps you should ask yourself, is my music to be listened to or is it to be danced upon? It’s a completely different approach. And when you are looking to work with someone it is essential that you can work together in synergy. This is the fundament of a good result.
