for me if the music is unreleased - make it available for download and it become popular!

Yes, you're probably right.

It might be wise to create a creative commons license.

Cool discussion - anyone else got something to say on this one?

I would like to be in charge of WHEN my track is ready to hit the dance floors... I am a perfectionist when it comes to my own productions - I dont want to put material out there, for download that is, that is not ready. As for FREE promotional downloads I am all up for it! ... If anybody want to get on my FREE promo list ... Please write me a message. I will make sure that you get my new releases for FREE.

most tracks are not released - it is true, and if you make music not only for your own ears - why not to make it available for download? otherwise people can never hear your track ))

I play music as a dj from time to time and would play some unreleased tracks, but most of them are locked from downloading. I consider this to be additional promotion - if the track is really good - it would become popular some day (in the mix of popular dj or whatever).

I made all my tracks available for download till the moment of release. So follow my example! ))

the problem really is copyright.

If I post a track for download, and someone thinks it is THAT nice and brings it to label, or some dude has his own label, and brings out the track on Vynil.

It is very hard to prove that is your track... So he will get all the credit.

On the other hand, if someone here would like to have a track, Or I would want to have one of them, I'd send a PM to see whats possible. I think most producers are willing to exchange tracks.

hmm..what prevents someone to use your track as their own? I'd like to let my tracks be downloaded since they're not released, so I can spread them but then again if someone use them to profit and tries to release'em under their name?

Yet if a producer or a dj would enjoy a track and asks for it via pm or via email, and set the cards on the table, would be willing to provide it. At least I'd have proof that the track is mine and it was asked for. Nonetheless, it is vital to store any info regarding the copyrighting of the tracks such as Ableton Live's projects for example. Also save the pm's and emails :P

The moment you put your tracks into any tangibled form
ie-scribble lyrics onto a napkin,producing it in Fruityloops,whatever.
Copyright automatically comes into play.

I may have a different point of view, but i.m.o if you really think that your tracks are good enough to be released but somehow their not released (yet). You have to KEEP looking for the right label and don't quit the search untill you've found one. Even if your track had been send to the Industry via this site but you didn't get any response.
Fact is that most labels don't like the idea of releasing a track which have been spread (for free) allready for a "x" time. Especially this days when the online market is getting bigger every day, there are so many labals out there!
The whole point for me why I liked i-dance so much, is that you can put your tracks up for safe and delete them from the web whenever you want. And like said above, you always can send a PM. At least you know who you gave your track to.

But like I said I may have a different point on view on this one.
